Scooter Rental on Jalan Labuansait, Uluwatu: Padang Padang, Bingin & Suluban, Steep Hills and Villa Delivery
By the siappergi.com team · Published · 10 min read

Jalan Labuansait is the road that ties together the surf side of the Bukit peninsula: from Pecatu it runs south-west past the turn-offs to Bingin and Impossibles, across the bridge at Padang Padang and on towards Suluban and Uluwatu. Along it are surf camps, guesthouses, villas, warungs and the shops surfers need, with the famous breaks below the cliffs on one side. It's a brilliant place to stay — and almost impossible to enjoy without your own wheels, because everything is a few kilometres apart and up and down hills. This guide is for anyone staying on or near the road. For prices and booking, go to scooter rental Uluwatu.
Jalan Labuansait in a nutshell
Think of Jalan Labuansait as the Bukit's surf high street. It's a two-lane road with scooters, cars, surf-school vans and the occasional truck, with side lanes branching off to the cliff-top villas and beaches. The beaches aren't on the road itself: each sits at the bottom of a cliff, reached from a parking area at the top by steps, a path, or a short descent through rocks. That pattern — ride, park at the top, walk down — repeats all along the road.
Who stays here? Mostly surfers, couples and friends in villas, and long-stayers who like the slower pace compared with Canggu. The common thread is that nearly everyone rents a scooter, because taxis are fewer on the Bukit than in Kuta or Seminyak and every trip is a few kilometres.
Beaches along the road
| Beach | How you reach it | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Bingin | Side lane off Jalan Labuansait, park at the top | Long series of steps down the cliff; reef break and cliff-side guesthouses |
| Impossibles | Between Bingin and Padang Padang, via cliff paths | Reef break for experienced surfers |
| Padang Padang | Entrance by the bridge on Jalan Labuansait | Steps through a rock gap to a small beach; an entrance fee is charged |
| Suluban (Blue Point) | Towards the Uluwatu end, park at the top | Steps down to the beach and caves below the cliff |
| Uluwatu Temple | Continue south and follow the signs | Sunset and Kecak dance; very busy before sunset |
Conditions, fees and access paths change, so check on arrival. Want to see several beaches in one go? Read Uluwatu & Bukit beach-hopping by scooter in one day. Beaches on the other side of the peninsula, such as Dreamland and Balangan, are reached by different roads from the Pecatu side.
Delivery to your villa on the Bukit
Delivery to Uluwatu costs IDR 100,000 — charged once per booking and covering both the delivery and the pick-up at the end. Because the Bukit is large and villas sit at the end of long cliff-top lanes, send the villa name and the Google Maps pin on the gate; the admin confirms the fee for your exact address before you commit. If you're also staying in Kuta, Legian or Seminyak during the trip, ask us to plan the delivery there — those areas are free — and ride down to the Bukit yourself.
At handover: check brakes, tyres, lights and fuel, photograph any marks, show your passport (not held) and your licence + International Driving Permit, and pay in Rupiah. The Pecatu & Bingin rental guide covers delivery to villas at the end of the more remote lanes.
Hills: which scooter for the Bukit?
| Scooter | Engine | Per day | 2 days | Per week |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honda BeAT (Gen 4–5) | 110cc | IDR 80,000 | IDR 160,000 | IDR 425,000 |
| Honda Scoopy (Gen 4) | 110cc | IDR 90,000 | IDR 180,000 | IDR 515,000 |
| Honda Vario 125 | 125cc | IDR 100,000 | IDR 200,000 | IDR 515,000 |
| Honda Vario 160 | 160cc | IDR 130,000 | IDR 260,000 | Ask on WhatsApp |
| Yamaha NMAX 155 (Gen 2) | 155cc | IDR 150,000 | IDR 300,000 | IDR 902,000 |
| Honda ADV 160 ABS | 160cc | IDR 180,000 | IDR 360,000 | Ask on WhatsApp |
The Bukit is a limestone plateau with steep climbs from the beaches and some sharp villa driveways. Solo, a Honda BeAT (Gen 4–5) or Honda Scoopy (Gen 4) copes with careful riding. Two-up, or with a board, choose a 125–160 cc scooter: the Honda Vario 125 (IDR 100,000/day) is the sensible all-rounder; the Honda Vario 160, Yamaha NMAX 155 (Gen 2) or Honda PCX 160 (Gen 2) (IDR 150,000/day) climb more easily with a passenger. The Honda ADV 160 ABS (IDR 180,000/day) has taller suspension for rough lanes. Compare everything on our scooter rental in Bali page.
Riding Jalan Labuansait safely
- Brake before the hill, not on it. Steep descents to the beach parking and villa lanes are where riders lose control. Slow down early and use both brakes gently.
- Watch for gravel and sand, especially on corners near beach car parks and after rain washes it across the road.
- Expect surf vans and trucks on the main road; give them room and don't overtake on blind bends.
- Dogs and chickens cross without warning in the quieter lanes.
- Sunset traffic towards the temple is heavy before the Kecak dance; read Uluwatu Kecak fire dance by scooter for timing.
- Many side lanes are unlit. Know your way home before it gets dark, and keep a phone with offline maps.
- After drinks, don't ride. Cliff-top bars are popular for sunset; arrange a ride back.
Carrying a surfboard
A surfboard on a scooter needs a side rack. If you plan to carry one, ask on WhatsApp when you book — don't assume a rack is fitted. Read scooter rental with a surf rack in Bali for how racks work and how to ride with a board. Many surfers on the Bukit keep their board at the surf camp or warung by the beach, or rent one at the beach, which saves riding with it at all. Where the waves are best through the year is in Bali surf spots by scooter.
At beaches with long staircases, carry only what you need: water, sunscreen and a small bag. Leave nothing on the scooter, and remember you'll walk back up the steps in the heat.
Parking at the top of the steps
Each beach has a parking area near the top of its path or steps, often managed by local villagers who collect a small parking fee — pay it, it's normal and the area is watched. Lock the steering and take the key. At busy times the closest spaces fill first; park a little further back rather than squeezing in where you'll block other bikes. Helmets can usually be left locked under the seat if the scooter has space; otherwise carry them.
What a stay on the Bukit costs
| Booking (incl. Uluwatu delivery) | Honda BeAT (Gen 4–5) | Honda Vario 125 | Yamaha NMAX 155 (Gen 2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 days | IDR 260,000 | IDR 300,000 | IDR 400,000 |
| 7 days | IDR 525,000 | IDR 615,000 | IDR 1,002,000 |
| 14 days | IDR 950,000 | IDR 1,130,000 | IDR 1,904,000 |
| 30 days | IDR 1,310,000 | IDR 1,610,000 | IDR 2,360,000 |
Totals include the IDR 100,000 delivery fee and use the cheapest mix of daily, weekly and monthly rates. Surf trips often run long: on a month, the delivery fee matters little and the monthly rate does the work — the Honda Vario 110 FI is IDR 910,000/month. No deposit on regular scooters.
Day trips from Jalan Labuansait
Your scooter also opens up the rest of the south: seafood at Jimbaran Bay, the GWK cultural park, Nusa Dua's calm beaches, and further afield Ubud. Scooter day trips from Uluwatu lists them with rough riding times. For the long ride north, Uluwatu to Ubud by scooter explains the route.
