Bali Scooter Rental Reviews: How to Read Them, Spot Fake Ones and Leave a Review That Helps
By the siappergi.com team · Published · 10 min read

Before choosing a scooter rental in Bali, most people do the same thing: look at the star rating and read a handful of reviews. It's a good instinct, but star ratings are easy to inflate and the most useful information is rarely in the five-star reviews. This guide explains how to read Bali scooter rental reviews properly, how to spot ones that aren't genuine, what reviews can't tell you, how our own review system works and how to leave a review that actually helps the next traveller. You'll find our models and prices on the Bali scooter rental page.
What a review can and can't tell you
Reviews are good at telling you how a rental behaves: whether scooters arrive on time, whether they're clean and mechanically sound, how problems are handled, whether deposits come back. They're poor at telling you the price you'll pay (prices change and differ by model and date) or the exact terms (which may have changed since the review). Use reviews to judge behaviour, and written terms to judge the deal.
How to read reviews like a local
1. Recency beats volume
A rental with a long history of good reviews can still have changed owners or staff. Read the reviews from the last three to six months first. A sudden change in tone — late deliveries, worse scooters — matters more than a high average built up years ago.
2. Details beat stars
"Great service!!" says little. "Vario delivered to our villa in Pererenan at 9 as agreed, brakes good, two clean helmets, picked up at the airport on our last day" tells you a lot — and is hard to fake in bulk. Look for model names, places, times and how something was handled.
3. Photos help
Photos of the actual scooter show its condition better than any description. They also make a review more believable: a real customer standing next to a real bike.
4. Read the one- and two-star reviews
Every rental gets some. What matters is the pattern and the response. One complaint about a late delivery in heavy rain is normal. Several complaints about deposits not returned, damage claims for old scratches, or passports kept are a warning, however high the average. A calm, specific reply from the rental is a good sign; an angry or copy-paste reply is not.
5. Check the reviews match what you need
A rental with great reviews for street pick-up in Kuta may not deliver to Uluwatu or Ubud. Look for reviews from people who stayed where you'll stay and rented the kind of scooter you want.
Signs a review might not be genuine
- Bursts of five-star reviews in a short period, all short and similar.
- Generic wording that could describe any business ("best service, highly recommend").
- Reviewer profiles with no other reviews, or many reviews of unrelated businesses in different countries on the same day.
- Perfect rating with no details at all across dozens of reviews.
- Offers of discounts or free days in exchange for five stars — a review written for a reward isn't independent.
None of these proves anything on its own, but together they're a reason to rely more on written terms and less on the rating. More warning signs, including common payment scams, are in trustworthy scooter rental in Bali and common tourist scams in Bali.
How reviews work on SiapPergi
We built our review system so it can only be used by people who actually rented from us:
- Only customers whose rental was delivered can post a review. You enter your order code and the contact you booked with; the system checks the order before the form opens.
- Reviews appear on each model's page (for example the Honda Vario 125 or Yamaha NMAX page), so you see what renters said about that scooter.
- Renters can add photos of the scooter they received.
- If a model has no reviews yet, the page says so — we don't fill the space with sample reviews or invented ratings.
If you booked by WhatsApp and would like to leave a review, ask the admin for your order code.
Why we tie reviews to orders
Open review forms are easy to fill with praise from friends or attacks from competitors. Linking every review to a delivered order means each one comes from someone who actually had a scooter from us, at a real address, on real dates. It also means the number of reviews grows slowly — that's the trade-off for knowing every review is from a renter. If you see a model with only a few reviews, that's the honest count.
Reviews on maps and social media
Most travellers also check map listings and social media. The same rules apply there, plus a few extras:
- Check the location matches. A rental's map pin should match where they say they operate; a delivery-only business may list an office or a service area instead of a shop.
- Look at the owner's replies over time. Consistent, polite, specific replies suggest the same team is still running things.
- Compare photos with the catalogue. If reviewers' photos show older or different scooters than the ones advertised, ask which model and year you'll actually get.
- Treat social media comments as anecdotes. A single viral story — good or bad — is one experience; look for patterns across many.
- Be careful with group recommendations that come with a discount code: the person may be paid per booking.
None of this needs to take long. Ten minutes reading the right reviews, plus a written total in the chat, avoids most of the bad experiences people write about.
Reviews plus written terms: the safe combination
Even a rental with excellent reviews should give you the important points in writing before you pay. Ask for the total for your dates and address, the deposit (if any), whether your passport is kept, and the cancellation rule. Our own terms are published on the scooter rental page and summarised below; the full list of points to check is in scooter rental agreement in Bali.
- Free delivery and pick-up to Ngurah Rai Airport and hotels or villas in Kuta, Legian & Seminyak.
- Other areas cost extra: Kerobokan, Berawa, Umalas, Sanur & Jimbaran IDR 60,000; Nusa Dua, Canggu & Pererenan IDR 80,000; Uluwatu IDR 100,000 (return trip included); anywhere else, ask on WhatsApp.
- Pay in Indonesian Rupiah when the scooter arrives (bank transfer or e-wallet) — nothing paid in advance.
- Your passport is shown, not held — with your home licence + International Driving Permit at handover.
- No deposit on regular scooters. Big bikes (Harley-Davidson etc.) need a IDR 3,000,000 safety deposit, paid at your hotel after you confirm.
- 2 helmets with every scooter. Minimum rental 2 days. Free cancellation — just message the same WhatsApp chat.
- Optional extras: brand-new helmet IDR 50,000, phone/GPS holder IDR 20,000 per rental, plastic raincoat IDR 10,000 each.

How to write a review that helps the next traveller
- Name the model and roughly how long you rented it.
- Say where it was delivered and whether it arrived on time.
- Describe the condition — brakes, tyres, cleanliness, helmets.
- Mention anything that went wrong and how it was handled.
- Describe the return — easy, on time, any disputes.
- Add a photo of the scooter if you can.
- Be fair and specific. A clear three-star review with details helps more than a vague five-star one.
Write your review within a few days of returning the scooter, while you still remember the times and details. Photos taken at handover are perfect for it.
Checklist before trusting a rental's reviews
- Read the last 3–6 months first.
- Look for details and photos, not just stars.
- Read the low-star reviews and the rental's replies.
- Watch for bursts of short five-star reviews.
- Check reviews from people who stayed in your area.
- Still get the total, deposit and passport rule in writing.
- Prefer paying when the scooter arrives, after checking it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find a well-reviewed scooter rental in Bali?
Read recent, detailed reviews with photos, check the low-star ones and how the rental replied, and confirm prices and terms in writing before paying.
How can I tell if scooter rental reviews are fake?
Watch for bursts of short five-star reviews, generic wording, reviewers with no history and rewards offered for good ratings.
Who can review a SiapPergi rental?
Only customers whose rental has been delivered, using their order code and the contact they booked with. Reviews appear on each model's page.
Can I add photos to my review?
Yes, you can attach photos of the scooter you rented.
Why does a model page show no reviews?
Because nobody has reviewed that model yet. We don't show sample or invented reviews.
Are reviews enough to choose a rental?
No. Use reviews to judge how a rental behaves, and written terms — total, deposit, passport, cancellation — to judge the deal.
