Landed in Bali and want to get going without queuing for a taxi? Many rentals can hand over a scooter in the pick-up area of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. Here's what to prepare.

How does airport handover work?

Choose the Ngurah Rai Airport area when booking, then give your flight number and landing time. The rental will wait at the agreed pick-up point and hand over the scooter after checking your licence and ID.

Who is it for?

  • Travellers with a backpack or cabin-size suitcase.
  • Destinations near the airport: Kuta, Tuban, Jimbaran, Legian.
  • Daytime arrivals in good weather.

When is hotel delivery better?

If you have a big suitcase, arrive at night, or are heading to faraway Ubud or Canggu, it's safer to take a taxi or the airport shuttle to your hotel and have the scooter delivered the next day.

Routes out of the airport

  • To Kuta/Legian: via Jl. Raya Tuban, about 10–15 minutes.
  • To Jimbaran/Uluwatu: south via Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai.
  • To Nusa Dua/Sanur: via the Bali Mandara toll road, which has a dedicated motorbike lane (tolled), or the Ngurah Rai Bypass.
  • To Seminyak/Canggu: via Sunset Road; busy in the afternoon.

Activate a data plan or eSIM before leaving the terminal so you can open your maps. Roads around the airport have lots of U-turns and one-way sections.

Airport handover step by step

  1. Book at least a day ahead; send your flight number, landing time and scooter model on WhatsApp.
  2. After collecting your bags, let the rental know you've left the arrivals area.
  3. Meet the rental staff at the agreed point and show your licence and ID/passport.
  4. Check and photograph the scooter's condition, fuel and STNK with the staff (see the scooter handover checklist).
  5. Put on your helmet, set up navigation, and ride slowly until you're used to the traffic around the airport.

Returning the scooter at the airport

Many rentals can also take the scooter back at the airport on your departure day. Allow extra time: arrive at the airport about 30 minutes earlier than planned for the scooter check and deposit refund. Details are in returning a rental scooter.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a scooter right at Ngurah Rai Airport?

Yes. Many rentals hand over the scooter in the airport pick-up area after checking your licence and ID. Book ahead and include your flight number.

Is there an extra charge for airport handover?

It depends on the rental; any delivery fee is confirmed before you pay.

What if my flight is delayed?

Let the rental know on WhatsApp. Include your flight number when booking so the rental can track the schedule.

Can I carry a suitcase on the scooter?

A cabin-size suitcase or backpack can fit on an automatic's footboard. A big suitcase isn't safe on a scooter — take a taxi and have the scooter delivered to your hotel.
