Rental Scooter Handover Checklist in Bali: Protect Your Deposit
By the SiapPergi Editorial Team · Published 8 October 2026 · 5 min read

Most deposit disputes happen because the scooter's condition wasn't recorded at handover. Take five minutes for the checklist below — it can save your deposit.
When you pick up the scooter
- Film a video walking around the scooter, front to back, left and right.
- Take close-ups of every existing scratch, crack or dent.
- Photograph the odometer and fuel gauge.
- Check the front & rear brakes — the levers shouldn't pull in too far.
- Check the tyres: clear tread, no bulges or cracks.
- Test the headlight, brake light, indicators and horn.
- Make sure the STNK (registration card) is there and valid, and the number plate matches it.
- Check the helmet: it fits and the strap buckle works.
- Ask which fuel is recommended and what fuel level to return it with.

During the rental
- Park in official spots and always lock the handlebars.
- Report any damage, however small, to the rental straight away.
- Don't take the scooter to a workshop without the rental's approval, except for an emergency puncture repair.
When you return it
- Return it on time, as agreed in your booking.
- Refuel to the same level as when you picked it up.
- Inspect it together with the rental and compare against your first photos.
- Ask for confirmation that your deposit will be returned.
Keep all photos and videos until your deposit is actually back.
