How to Find a Cheap Scooter Rental in Bali Without Getting Scammed
By the SiapPergi Editorial Team · Updated 15 October 2026 · published 8 October 2026 · 8 min read

Low prices are tempting, but a scooter that's too cheap can end with failing brakes, bald tyres or a deposit you never see again. Here's how to get the best price without sacrificing safety.
1. Compare several rentals at once
The same scooter can cost different amounts at different rentals. On the Bali scooter rental page you can see price ranges per model and area as a benchmark before you negotiate or book.
2. Book early in peak season
Around school holidays, Lebaran (Eid), Christmas–New Year and July–August, cheap scooters go fast. Booking 1–2 weeks ahead gives you more choice.
3. Choose the scooter you need, not the biggest
For getting around Kuta–Seminyak, a Honda BeAT is more than enough and much cheaper than an NMAX. Save your budget for a powerful scooter only if you're actually going to Kintamani or Uluwatu.
4. Rent longer for a better daily rate
If you're staying a week or more, renting for the whole period is usually cheaper than extending day by day.
Rental red flags to avoid
- Refuses to give written/digital proof of the price and deposit.
- Scooter without an STNK, or a number plate that doesn't match it.
- Insists on keeping your passport with no alternative.
- Won't let you photograph the scooter's condition at handover.
- Price far below market rate for no clear reason.
How to protect your deposit
- Film a walk-around video at handover, including the odometer and fuel level.
- Note existing scratches together with the rental.
- Return the scooter on time with the same fuel level as at pick-up.
- Ask for written confirmation that your deposit has been refunded.
Get the price, deposit and cancellation policy in writing (for example in a WhatsApp chat) before paying, and keep it as proof of your booking.
Cheap vs too cheap: how to tell

| Reason for the price | Long rental, low season, self pick-up | Unclear |
| Payment | After the final price is confirmed / at handover | Full upfront transfer to an account you can't verify |
| Scooter condition | A few years old, good brakes & tyres | Bald tyres, weak brakes, expired STNK |
