Car Hire in Bali With No Deposit and No Credit Card: How It Works
By the SiapPergi Editorial Team · Published 15 October 2026 · 6 min read

At home, renting a car means a credit card, a big hold on your account and a desk agent upselling insurance. In Bali it usually works differently — most local rentals don’t take cards at all. That’s good news if you travel with a debit card or prefer not to have hundreds of dollars frozen on your account. Here’s how no-deposit car hire works in Bali and what to watch for.
Why Bali car hire often doesn’t need a credit card
International chains with airport desks are rare in Bali. Most rental cars come from local companies and owners who deliver to your hotel and take payment by bank transfer, e-wallet or cash. That means no card pre-authorisation — but it also means the rental needs some other way to feel safe lending you a car. Traditionally, that’s a cash deposit or, worse, your passport.
How no-deposit hire works with SiapPergi
- Choose a car in the car rental catalogue and send your dates, delivery address and name.
- Our admin checks availability and confirms the price and delivery time on WhatsApp.
- The car is delivered. You check it and photograph it.
- You pay the rental in full by bank transfer or e-wallet. No deposit up front, no card hold.
- At the end, we pick the car up from your hotel, villa or the airport.
Because you pay only once the car is in front of you, there’s no risk of losing a deposit to a rental that doesn’t show up. More on that in pay on delivery rentals in Bali.
What it costs
| Car | Seats | Per day | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honda Brio | 5 seats | IDR 310,000 | IDR 4,010,000 |
| Toyota Calya | 7 seats | IDR 310,000 | IDR 3,510,000 |
| Toyota Avanza | 7 seats | IDR 360,000 | Ask on WhatsApp |
| Hyundai Stargazer | 7 seats | IDR 360,000 | IDR 6,010,000 |
| Mitsubishi Xpander | 7 seats | IDR 410,000 | IDR 6,510,000 |
Those are catalogue prices for self-drive with delivery. For a car with a driver (airport transfer or a full-day tour), the admin quotes a price based on your route and number of passengers. A wider market comparison is in our Bali car rental price list.
What the rental still checks
- Your driving licence and IDP. Non-negotiable — and a legal requirement for you, not just the rental.
- Your passport, to confirm who you are. They look at it; they don’t keep it.
- Where the car is going — your hotel or villa address, and sometimes a flight ticket or booking confirmation.
- A working WhatsApp number, so you can be reached during the rental.
The full list is in Bali car rental requirements.
If any rental asks to keep your passport “as a guarantee”, walk away. It’s your legal ID in Indonesia and you need it at hotels, banks and police checks.
Red flags with ‘no deposit’ offers
- “No deposit” — but full payment by transfer before delivery. That’s still paying upfront. You carry all the risk.
- A price far below the market (say, a 7-seater for IDR 150k a day). Usually bait, followed by surprise fees.
- No physical address, no reviews, a brand-new Instagram account.
- Pressure to pay “today only” to hold the car.

Insurance and damage
Ask what happens if the car is scratched or damaged during your rental before you confirm, and get the answer on WhatsApp. Our explainer on Bali car rental deposits and insurance covers own-risk amounts and how damage is usually handled. Check your travel insurance too — many policies cover rental car excess if you were driving legally with an IDP.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rent a car in Bali without a credit card?
Yes. Most Bali rentals, including SiapPergi, don’t use credit cards. You pay by bank transfer or e-wallet when the car is delivered.
Is there really no deposit?
With SiapPergi there’s no deposit up front. You pay the rental in full at handover. If a specific vehicle ever needed a deposit, the admin would tell you clearly on WhatsApp before you confirm.
Can I rent a car in Bali with a debit card?
You don’t need a card at all — payment is by bank transfer or e-wallet, which you can usually do from a banking or e-wallet app that scans QRIS.
Do I still need an International Driving Permit?
Yes. No-deposit booking changes how you pay, not the law. Carry your home licence, IDP and passport.
