Canggu to Bali Airport on Departure Day: How Long to Allow, Returning Your Scooter & Your Luggage

The last day of a Canggu trip is easy to get wrong. The airport isn't far on the map, but the roads between Canggu and Ngurah Rai are some of the busiest in Bali, and a missed flight costs far more than leaving early. Here's how to plan departure day when you've been getting around on a rental scooter.

How long does it take?

The route usually runs from Canggu through Kerobokan, along Sunset Road and through the Simpang Dewa Ruci junction to the airport — roughly 20 km. In normal traffic that's 45–75 minutes by car; in the afternoon rush and on weekends it can take longer. Always check live traffic on Google Maps before you leave. These are cautious rules of thumb, not guarantees. Your airline sets the check-in deadline; follow that first.

Returning the scooter: let it come to you

With our Bali scooter rental, the scooter is delivered to your villa and collected from it at the end (in Canggu the return delivery fee is IDR 80,000) — no need to ride anywhere to return it. On departure day:

1. A day before, send the admin your flight time and check-out time in the same WhatsApp chat.
2. Agree on a collection time, usually around your check-out.
3. Hand over the scooter, key and both helmets; check it together, just as at delivery.
4. Take a taxi, ride-hailing car or airport transfer with your luggage.

Leaving your villa early but flying late? Ask to keep the scooter until your new address — e.g. a café or a day-use spot — and have it collected there. Agree the place and time in writing on WhatsApp.

Why not ride to the airport?

• Suitcases on a scooter are unstable and unsafe, and the bypass roads near the airport are fast and busy.
• There's still the problem of who takes the scooter back from the airport parking.
• Rain or a flat tyre on the way can turn a tight schedule into a missed flight.

Families and groups: a car for the last day

If you're several people with luggage, a self-drive car that's returned at the airport can be simpler than two taxis. A Honda Brio costs IDR 310,000/day and a 7-seater from IDR 360,000/day (minimum 2 days). A departure-day checklist

• Flight time sent to the admin the day before.
• Ask the admin beforehand how fuel is handled at hand-back.
• Phone holder, raincoats and other add-ons packed back under the seat, not in your bag.
• Photos of the scooter at hand-back, like at delivery.
• Taxi or transfer booked for after the collection time.
