Returning Your Rental Car at Bali Airport on Departure Day: How It Works
By the siappergi.com team · Published · 5 min read

The last day of a holiday is never relaxed: packing, checking out, a last swim, then the dash to the airport. Having your rental car collected at the airport means one less taxi to book — you drive yourself and your luggage straight there. Here's how to make the handover smooth.
How the airport return works
- The day before: message the admin on WhatsApp with your flight time and terminal (international or domestic).
- Agree the meeting point and time — the drop-off lane is for quick stops only, so a fixed point saves stress.
- On the day: leave with extra time for traffic around the airport.
- At handover: unload your bags first, then walk around the car together, photograph it and the fuel gauge, and hand over the key.

Timing your last day
| Flight | Arrive at the airport | Leave the hotel (south Bali) |
|---|---|---|
| International | 2–3 hours before departure | Add 45–90 minutes for traffic |
| Domestic | About 1.5–2 hours before | Add 45–90 minutes for traffic |
Coming from Ubud (about 37 km) or further? Leave earlier still. If your flight is late at night, you can also return the car at your hotel in the afternoon and take a transfer.
Before you hand back the car
- Check for belongings: sunglasses, chargers and passports hide in door pockets.
- Fuel: agree at pick-up how the car should be returned, and photograph the gauge at both ends.
- Rubbish and sand: a quick tidy is appreciated.
- Payment is already done — you paid at delivery, so there's nothing to settle at the airport unless you extended the rental.

Frequently asked questions
Can I return my rental car at Bali Airport?
Yes. Agree the time and meeting point with the admin on WhatsApp the day before your flight.
Can I pick up the car at my villa and return it at the airport?
Yes, pick-up and return can be at different places in Bali. Agree both when you book.
How early should I return the car before an international flight?
Airlines usually recommend arriving 2–3 hours before departure — plan the handover to fit, plus time for traffic.
Do I pay anything at the airport?
Normally no — you paid at delivery. Only an extension agreed later would be settled then.
