Vietnamese travellers are some of the most confident scooter riders in Bali. The main thing to check before you book is whether your licence class covers the scooter you want. Here's a quick guide.

Which scooter fits your licence

ScooterEngineLicence to check
Honda BeAT (Gen 4–5)110ccA1 is usually enough
Honda Vario 125125ccA1 is usually enough
Yamaha NMAX 155 (Gen 2)155ccCheck your A1 limit; class A covers it
Honda PCX 160 (Gen 2)160ccCheck your A1 limit; class A covers it

Licence classes and limits have changed over time in Vietnam. Check the class and limit printed on your licence and the latest guidance from the road authority before travelling.

ASEAN recognition vs the IDP

Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam are ASEAN members, and under an ASEAN agreement a valid national licence from another member country is generally recognised. Police at a roadside check may still ask for an International Driving Permit, so many riders carry one. Rules can change — check before you travel.

Not sure about your class limit? Choose a 110–125 cc scooter such as the BeAT, Scoopy or Vario 125 — they're easy to ride and cheaper too.

Rentals start from 2 days. Bali drives on the left — the opposite of Vietnam — so read riding on the left in Bali before your first ride.

How booking works

  1. Pick a scooter in the catalogue (or tell us your height, route and how many riders and we'll suggest one).
  2. Send your dates, the hotel or villa name with a Google Maps pin, and your WhatsApp number.
  3. The admin confirms the bike, the total price and the delivery time — no payment yet.
  4. The scooter arrives with 2 helmets. Check it together, show your passport and licence, then pay in full (bank transfer or e-wallet).

Book on WhatsApp or via the Bali scooter rental catalogue: the bike is delivered to your hotel or villa and you pay when it arrives.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride a scooter in Bali with a Vietnamese licence?

Yes, if your licence class covers the scooter's engine size. Bali rental scooters are 110–160 cc.

Is class A1 enough for an NMAX or PCX?

It depends on the limit for your A1 licence. Check your card; class A covers these 155–160 cc scooters.

Do Vietnamese riders need an IDP?

A valid Vietnamese licence is generally recognised under an ASEAN agreement, but an IDP helps at police checks.

Do I pay a deposit?

No. You pay in full when the scooter is delivered.
