You booked a scooter before you knew Bali's roads. Now you're halfway through the trip and it isn't quite right: the small bike struggles up to Ubud with two of you on it, the big one feels heavy in Canggu's lanes, or the rain has set in for days. You don't have to put up with it. Here's how swapping a rental scooter works, what it costs and when to switch to a car instead.
Four good reasons to swap

How a swap works
- Send a WhatsApp message: which bike you'd like instead, from when, and where you are.
- The admin checks what's free and tells you the new total for the rest of your rental. You decide; nothing changes until you agree.
- The new scooter (or car) is delivered to your address and the old one is collected in the same visit. Check the new bike together, as you did at the first handover.
- Settle the difference as agreed with the admin, by bank transfer or e-wallet in rupiah.
Swaps depend on availability, especially in high season. The earlier you ask, the more choice you have — message the evening before rather than the morning of a big ride.

What an upgrade costs
The price follows the catalogue. These are the daily differences for the most common changes:

Weekly and monthly rates differ by model, so for longer rentals the admin works out the exact total from the catalogue and confirms it before the swap.
Upgrading for one big day only
Planning one long ride — Kintamani, Bedugul or the east coast — but happy with a small bike the rest of the time? Switching from a scooter to a car
Sometimes the right swap has four wheels: a week of heavy rain, friends or family joining you, a minor scrape that's knocked your confidence, or a long drive with luggage at the end of the trip. Car prices:

What not to do
- Don't swap bikes with other travellers. The scooter's papers and your rental agreement belong together.
- Don't ride a bike that's wrong for you to save a message. A scooter that's too heavy or too weak for the route is a safety problem, not just a comfort one.
- Don't wait until the last day. Ask early so the right bike is free.
