A week is the most common length for a Bali holiday, and that's exactly where a weekly rental pays off. Instead of extending your rental day by day, you have one handover, one payment, and usually a lower daily rate. This guide explains how to do the maths, when a weekly price works in your favour, and what to agree on so there are no surprises on day seven.

Why is weekly rental cheaper?

For a rental, one customer for seven days means one delivery, one inspection and a bike that's guaranteed to be in use. Those savings are often passed on to you as a lower daily rate. Another benefit for you is convenience: the bike is yours from day one and you can plan routes freely without worrying about extensions.

Weekly, daily or monthly?

Length of stayBest optionWhy

4–6 daysAsk for a weekly rateA 7-day package sometimes costs about the same as 5–6 days at the daily rate
7–14 daysWeeklyLower daily rate, single handover
3 weeks or moreMonthlyUsually the cheapest per day; read monthly scooter rental

Staying 5 or 6 days? Ask for two quotes at once: the daily rate × number of days, and the 7-day package price. Sometimes the weekly package is cheaper even if you return the bike early — but make sure the early-return terms are in writing.

How to get the best weekly price

  1. Book early, especially for July–August, school holidays and Christmas–New Year. Also avoid Nyepi (the Balinese Day of Silence) for handovers, because roads are completely closed for 24 hours.
  2. Give exact pick-up and return dates when contacting the rental via the Bali scooter rental page.
  3. Ask for the total price, not just the daily rate, including delivery and pick-up to your hotel or villa.
  4. Compare models. The weekly difference between a BeAT and a Vario is only a few tens of thousands of rupiah, but the Vario is far more comfortable two-up and on hills.
  5. Ask about the season. Outside peak season, rentals are more open to offering better weekly rates.

What to agree on for a 7-day rental

  • Pick-up and return times. Until what time does day 7 run? Being a few hours late can be charged as an extra day.
  • Early return. Are unused days refunded, or is the price recalculated at the daily rate?
  • Extensions. What's the daily price if you add 2–3 days?
  • Replacement bike. If the bike breaks down on day three, will the rental swap it, and how quickly?
  • Flat tyres and minor repairs. Who pays? See the flat tyre and breakdown guide.
  • Different drop-off location. If you move from Canggu to Ubud mid-week, ask whether the bike can be returned elsewhere and what it costs.

A week-long plan that suits weekly rental

A week is enough to enjoy two bases. A comfortable pattern: three nights in Canggu or Seminyak for beaches and cafés, then four nights in Ubud for rice fields, temples and a day trip to Kintamani. Daily route ideas are in the 7-day Bali itinerary by scooter.

If you change base, you can usually take the rented bike with you because Bali isn't that big — Canggu to Ubud is about 1–1.5 hours' ride. The key is to tell the rental your plans from the start.

Example: 6 days vs a 7-day package

Say you rent a Honda Vario at a daily rate of Rp90,000 and the rental offers a 7-day package for Rp550,000. Six days at the daily rate comes to Rp540,000 — only Rp10,000 less than the weekly package, while the package gives you a spare day if your departure shifts. On the other hand, if the 7-day package is Rp630,000, the daily rate for six days is clearly cheaper. These figures are only an illustration; the point is always to compare totals, not daily prices.

  • Add delivery and pick-up fees if any; on short rentals they feel significant, on weekly rentals they're spread out.
  • Factor in fuel: a 110–125 cc automatic used normally in Bali usually needs a few tens of thousands of rupiah per day.
  • Remember the deposit isn't a cost — you get it back if the bike is returned in good condition.

One more note: a weekly rental means the bike is in your hands for longer, including when parked at beaches, markets and villas. Always lock the handlebars, take the key with you, and park in attended areas. Also ask the rental what to do if the STNK or key is lost, because replacing them can take time and money.

Choosing a bike for the week

For a week of mixed town and out-of-town riding, the Honda Vario is the most balanced choice. If you often ride with a passenger or plan to visit Uluwatu and Kintamani, the Yamaha NMAX is more comfortable on long rides. For getting around near your accommodation only, the Honda BeAT is enough and the cheapest.

Take photos and a video of the bike's condition on day one, and keep them until your deposit is returned. Over a week-long rental, it's easy to forget where small scratches came from.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a week of scooter rental cost in Bali?

As a market estimate, a BeAT costs around Rp350–500k per week, a Vario Rp430–630k and an NMAX Rp680–950k. Exact prices depend on season, unit and area; check /sewa-motor for current prices.

Is weekly rental always cheaper than daily?

Usually yes, because rentals give discounts for longer rentals. Still ask for the total price in writing and compare it with the daily rate × number of days.

What if I return the bike early?

It depends on the rental's policy. Some don't refund unused days; others recalculate at the daily rate. Agree on this before paying.

Can I swap bikes during a weekly rental?

Yes, if the rental has a replacement unit, especially if the bike has a problem. Ask about the terms when booking.

Do I pay for a weekly rental up front or at the end?

Most rentals ask for payment up front at handover, plus a deposit. Keep proof of payment and a note of the total price.
