Beyond busy beaches like Kuta and Pandawa, Bali still has quiet coves tucked beneath the cliffs. Roads are narrow and parking is tight, so a scooter is the best way to get there. Here's the list and our tips.

Routes from the tourist areas

  • From Kuta/Jimbaran to Tegal Wangi, Green Bowl and Gunung Payung: 30–45 minutes on Bukit roads.
  • Nyang Nyang is close to Uluwatu Temple — combine it with our Uluwatu beaches route.
  • Bias Tugel: about 1 hour from Sanur to Padangbai — see scooter rental in Candidasa & Padangbai.
  • Download offline Google Maps; signal below the cliffs is often weak.

Go early or late. Cliff stairs get very hot at midday, and sunset at Tegal Wangi is the busiest time.

Safety tips

  • Don't swim in big surf or where red flags are up.
  • Bring water; many beaches have no stalls at the bottom.
  • Park in official spots and keep valuables in the scooter's storage.
  • Watch for sand and gravel on downhill roads — read riding on sand, gravel and slippery roads.
