Sanur is calm, flat and popular with families and long-stayers — and it's one of the easiest places in Bali to have a car. The town sits next to the bypass, so Ubud, the east coast temples and the airport are all a straightforward drive away. Here's what a car costs in Sanur, the day trips that make it worthwhile, and how to have one delivered to your hotel.

Car rental prices in Sanur

Nusa Penida & Lembongan: plan the rental around the boat

Fast boats to Nusa Penida, Lembongan and the Gilis leave from Sanur harbour, and you can't take a rental car across. If you're staying on the island for a night or more, the simplest plan is to start your car rental the day after you come back — or end it the morning you leave. The admin can deliver the car straight to your hotel on your return day.

Just doing a Nusa Penida day trip? Keep the car at your hotel and walk or take a short ride to the harbour; hotels usually have safer parking than the harbour area.

Driving in Sanur

  • Inside Sanur the streets are quiet and one-way in places; the beach path is for walking and cycling only.
  • The bypass (Jalan Ngurah Rai) connects Sanur to the airport, Nusa Dua and the east. It's a fast road with a lot of scooters — keep left and use your mirrors.
  • Parking: most hotels have parking; at beaches and attractions there's usually a small parking fee.
  • Rush hours: mornings and late afternoons around Denpasar are the slowest; plan day trips to leave by 8 am.

Car, driver or scooter?

A self-drive car is the best value for families who want flexibility. If nobody wants to drive on the left, a car with driver is quoted per day. Couples staying in town often prefer a scooter from IDR 70,000/day — see scooter rental in Sanur.

What you need

  • Passport (shown at handover — you keep it, nobody holds it).
  • Your home driving licence + an International Driving Permit with the car category. See how to get an IDP.
  • Minimum rental 2 days (the daily rate counts per 24 hours).
  • No deposit up front: you pay in full when the car is handed over, by bank transfer or e-wallet, in rupiah.

How booking works

  1. Tap the WhatsApp button and fill in the blanks: car, dates, hotel or villa, passengers.
  2. The admin replies with what's free, the exact total and the delivery time — you know the full price before you commit.
  3. The car is delivered to your hotel, villa or the airport. Walk around it, photograph any scratches and check the fuel level together.
  4. Show your passport and licence + IDP, pay, and drive off. Return is collected from the same address (or another one you agree on).
