Plenty of Irish travellers stop in Bali on a big trip around Asia or Australia. Bali drives on the left like home, which helps — but your licence still needs the right motorcycle category. Here's what you need.

What an Irish rider needs

DocumentWhy it matters
Full licence with category A1, A2 or ABali scooters are motorcycles
International Driving PermitExpected next to your licence
PassportShown at handover and police checks
Travel insurance covering scooter ridingCheck the licence conditions

Rules can change. Check the Department of Foreign Affairs travel advice for Indonesia before you go.

Not licensed for motorcycles? A car with driver, a rental car or ride-hailing is safer for you and your insurance.

How booking works

  1. Pick a scooter in the catalogue (or tell us your height, route and how many riders and we'll suggest one).
  2. Send your dates, the hotel or villa name with a Google Maps pin, and your WhatsApp number.
  3. The admin confirms the bike, the total price and the delivery time — no payment yet.
  4. The scooter arrives with 2 helmets. Check it together, show your passport and licence, then pay in full (bank transfer or e-wallet).

Book on WhatsApp or via the Bali scooter rental catalogue: the bike is delivered to your hotel or villa and you pay when it arrives.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride a scooter in Bali with an Irish licence?

Yes, with category A1, A2 or A plus an International Driving Permit.

Is a category B licence enough?

No. Category B is for cars; scooters need a motorcycle category.

Does Bali drive on the left like Ireland?

Yes, but traffic is much busier with scooters on every side.

Do I pay a deposit?

No. You pay in full when the scooter is delivered.
