What a French rider needs in Bali

Permis B and the 7-hour training: why it doesn't count
In France, holders of a permis B for at least two years can ride a light motorcycle up to 125 cm³ after a 7-hour training course. That's a French-only equivalence: your licence still shows category B, and your permis international will only cover cars. In Bali you would be riding without a valid motorcycle licence — and an insurer can refuse to pay for a crash.

Requesting the permis international
- Go to the ANTS website and request an international driving permit (it's an online procedure).
- Upload your licence, ID, proof of address and a photo as requested.
- Check that the motorcycle category appears on the permit when it arrives.
- Carry it together with your plastic French licence — the permit alone is not valid.
