Echo Beach & Batu Bolong by Scooter: Parking, Sunset Timing & Riding Home After Dark
By the siappergi.com team · Published · 7 min read

If you stay in Canggu, you will end up at Echo Beach or Batu Bolong almost every day — for a surf lesson, a smoothie, or the sunset that half of Canggu turns up for. Both beaches sit at the end of narrow roads that fill up fast, so a bit of local know-how makes the difference between a relaxed ride and twenty minutes of crawling behind cars. This guide is just about these two beaches: getting there, parking, timing and riding home.
Where the two beaches are
Batu Bolong beach is at the bottom of Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, next to its temple on the rocks. Echo Beach — locally Pantai Batu Mejan — is a little further north-west, at the end of Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan. Both are in Canggu village, North Kuta, and both are lined with cafés, surf schools and small beach bars. For the wider area, start with our Canggu scooter rental page, which covers prices, delivery and the whole neighbourhood.
Getting there by scooter
- From Berawa or Batu Bolong it's a short ride, but the beach roads are narrow and two-way, with cars, delivery bikes and pedestrians sharing them.
- From Pererenan, ride east towards Echo Beach — it's the closest of the two. Staying out there? See scooter rental in Pererenan.
- From Seminyak or Kerobokan, allow extra time in the late afternoon; the main roads into Canggu are slow at that hour.
- Use Google Maps but trust what you see: lanes change, and some short cuts are private roads.
Parking at Echo Beach and Batu Bolong
- Both beaches have scooter parking run by attendants who collect a small fee. Keep small Rupiah notes handy.
- Before sunset the bays fill quickly. Arrive early, or park a little further up the road and walk.
- Don't block driveways, temple entrances or shop fronts — your bike may be moved, and it's disrespectful.
- Lock the steering, keep your phone off the dashboard and put the helmets under the seat if they fit.

Timing: beat the sunset rush
| Time | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Early morning | Quiet roads, easy parking — best for surf sessions |
| Midday | Moderate traffic, hot; good café time |
| 1–2 hours before sunset | Busiest: cars and scooters queue on the beach roads |
| After dark | Second wave as everyone leaves; tired, distracted riders |
Staying within walking distance? Walk to the sunset and keep the scooter for longer rides. Queuing 500 metres on a beach road isn't worth it.
Carrying a surfboard
Batu Bolong is a popular beginner break and Echo Beach suits more experienced surfers. If you plan to ride with a board, ask for a scooter with a side surf rack when you book (availability is confirmed by the admin) and ride slower — a board catches the wind and makes the bike wider in narrow lanes. Lessons and beginner spots are explained in learn to surf in Bali.
Riding home after dark
- Side lanes to villas are often unlit and potholed — slow down and use your high beam only when nothing is coming.
- Watch for dogs and for puddles after rain.
- Been drinking at a beach bar? Leave the scooter and take a ride-hailing car. Read getting home safely after a night out.
