Canggu has become one of the places people picture when they think of working remotely in Bali: coworking desks, laptop-friendly cafés, surf before work and sunset after. What the photos don't show is that the good spots are spread out along narrow roads with little shade, and walking between them in the midday heat is hard work. A scooter is what makes the routine work. Here's how to set it up.

Why a scooter fits the coworking routine

  • Most coworking spaces and laptop cafés sit along the main roads in Berawa and Batu Bolong and towards Pererenan; villas are often down side lanes.
  • Ride-hailing pick-ups in narrow Canggu lanes can be slow at busy times.
  • You can switch between a coworking desk, a café and the beach in one afternoon.

A month (30 days) is automatically priced at the cheapest mix of daily, weekly and monthly rates — e.g. Honda BeAT (Gen 4–5) 30 days = IDR 1,210,000, Honda Vario 125 30 days = IDR 1,510,000. These are the same prices as across our Bali scooter rental catalogue.

Parking at coworking spaces and cafés

  • Many coworking spaces and cafés have their own scooter parking, sometimes with an attendant. Where there's a small fee, it's paid on the way out.
  • In the midday sun, the seat gets hot — park in shade where you can, or cover the seat.
  • Don't leave a laptop bag under the seat or on the footboard while you're inside.

Carrying a laptop safely

  • Use a padded backpack worn on your back; a bag hanging from the hook between your knees swings and can be snatched.
  • In rainy season keep a dry bag or rain cover inside your backpack — showers arrive fast. Raincoats are an add-on: (2) Plastic raincoats IDR 20,000 per booking.
  • A phone holder keeps navigation in view without holding your phone: Phone/GPS holder (whole rental) IDR 20,000.

Ride to your desk before the late-afternoon rush and leave after dark or early — the hour before sunset is the slowest time on Canggu's roads.

A typical working day

A common rhythm: an early surf or gym session while the roads are empty, a short ride to a coworking desk before the heat, lunch nearby, a café change in the afternoon, and home or to the beach before the sunset rush — or after it, once traffic has eased. With a scooter parked outside, none of these moves takes more than a few minutes.
