Bangli is the only regency in Bali with no coastline. It rises gradually from rice fields in the south to the caldera of Mount Batur in the north, with hidden waterfalls, viewpoints and traditional villages along the way. There are few scooter rentals in Bangli itself, but Ubud is only 12–17 km from its three southern districts. This guide helps you rent a scooter and explore Bangli beyond Kintamani.

Kintamani has its own guide: riding a scooter to Kintamani covers the entry fee, weather and suitable scooters. The Penglipuran and Kehen Temple route is covered in Bangli scooter route. This article focuses on Susut and Tembuku, and on how to rent your scooter.

Where to rent a scooter for Bangli?

  • Ubud (most practical). Plenty of scooters, competitive prices, and only approx. 40 minutes away. See scooter rental Ubud.

The paths to Tukad Cepung and Tibumana are wet and slippery. Wear hiking sandals, leave your helmet under the seat or with the parking attendant, and bring a dry bag for your phone.

Road conditions and riding tips

  • The main Gianyar–Bangli road is smooth, but village roads to the waterfalls are narrow and sometimes potholed.
  • The further north you go, the steeper it gets. For two people, a Vario 125 is the minimum comfortable size; an NMAX or PCX is better if you're continuing to Kintamani.
  • Mist and rain often come after 2 pm, especially from November to March. See riding a scooter in Bali's rainy season.
  • Bangli has many traditional ceremonies; be ready to wait or detour if a village road is closed.
  • Fill up in Bangli town or Gianyar before heading to the villages further north.
