The last day of a Bali trip often goes like this: checkout at noon, flight at 9 pm, and a long afternoon in between with your bags. With a rental scooter you can turn it into one more beach session or a last plate of grilled fish — as long as you plan the handback and leave enough time for traffic. This guide is about that last day; the general rules for handing a scooter back are in returning a rental scooter in Bali.

Step 1: decide where the scooter ends

OptionBest forWatch out for
Pick-up at your hotelBig suitcases; you take a taxi to the airportAgree a time that leaves you the afternoon
Pick-up at the airportBackpack or cabin bag onlyRiding in late-afternoon traffic with luggage
Pick-up at a café or beach near the airportA last swim, then taxiAgree the exact Google Maps pin

Whichever you choose, send it to the admin a day ahead in the same WhatsApp chat. Pick-up is free at the airport and in Kuta, Legian & Seminyak; elsewhere the delivery fee you paid already covers the return trip.

Step 2: sort out your luggage

  • Ask your hotel to hold your bags after checkout. Many do; ask at reception the day before.
  • If you're moving from Canggu or Ubud on the last day, consider sending luggage ahead by taxi and riding light.
  • Never ride with a big suitcase on a scooter. A backpack or a cabin bag on the floorboard of a flat-deck scooter is the limit.

Step 3: plan a short, close-by afternoon

Stay within 20–30 minutes of where the scooter will be collected. Good last-afternoon ideas near the airport:

  • A swim and a coconut at Kuta, Legian or the Tuban beachfront.
  • Grilled seafood at Kedonganan or Jimbaran — but book it as an early dinner, not a sunset rush.
  • Last-minute shopping in the malls of Kuta and Tuban, where you can park easily.
  • Plane-spotting near the end of the runway — see things to do near Bali Airport.

Uluwatu and Canggu sunsets are beautiful, but the ride back at dusk is when traffic is heaviest. On the last day, choose something closer.

Step 4: build in a big buffer

Airlines tell you when to be at the terminal; follow their advice and add your own margin for traffic. Kuta's one-way streets, Sunset Road and the Bypass Ngurah Rai can crawl in the late afternoon and on weekends. If you hand the scooter back at the airport, allow time to meet the rider and do the quick check before you go inside. Route basics are in riding the Ngurah Rai Bypass by scooter.

Step 5: the handback

  1. Message the rider when you're 10–15 minutes away.
  2. Hand over the scooter, both helmets and the keys; the rider does a quick walk-around.
  3. There's no deposit to refund and nothing left to pay unless you agreed extra days or extras.
  4. Take your bags and head to the terminal — or into a taxi from the hotel.

If you only have the last day

Arrived late and leaving soon? The minimum rental is 2 days, so a scooter fits a stay of two days or more. For shorter windows, a taxi or the airport transfer is easier.

  • Free delivery and pick-up to Ngurah Rai Airport and hotels or villas in Kuta, Legian & Seminyak.
  • Other areas cost extra: Berawa, Umalas, Sanur & Jimbaran IDR 60,000; Nusa Dua & Canggu IDR 80,000; Uluwatu IDR 100,000 (return trip included); anywhere else, ask on WhatsApp.
  • Pay in Indonesian Rupiah when the scooter arrives (bank transfer or e-wallet) — nothing paid in advance.

  • No deposit on regular scooters. Big bikes (Harley-Davidson etc.) need a IDR 3,000,000 safety deposit, paid at your hotel after you confirm.
  • 2 helmets with every scooter. Minimum rental 2 days. Free cancellation — just message the same WhatsApp chat.
  • Optional extras: brand-new helmet IDR 50,000, phone/GPS holder IDR 20,000 per rental, plastic raincoat IDR 10,000 each.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my rental scooter until my evening flight?

Yes. Agree a pick-up time and place on WhatsApp — at your hotel or at the airport if you only have a cabin bag.

Can the scooter be returned at Bali Airport?

Yes, pick-up at Ngurah Rai Airport is free. Only do it with a backpack or cabin bag.

How much time should I allow before my flight?

Follow your airline's check-in advice and add a generous margin for late-afternoon traffic in Kuta and on the Bypass.

Is there a deposit to collect on the last day?

No. There's no deposit and you paid on delivery, so the handback is just a quick check.

What should I do with my luggage after checkout?

Ask your hotel to hold your bags, ride light, and take a taxi to the airport with your suitcase.
