Scooter Rental in Pemuteran: Menjangan, Pulaki & West Bali
By the SiapPergi Editorial Team · Published 11 October 2026 · 5 min read

Pemuteran sits at the far north-western corner of Bali, far from the crowds. Its beaches are calm, its coral reef has been restored by local people since the early 2000s, and Menjangan Island in West Bali National Park is only a short trip away. Because the sights are spread along the coast road, a scooter is the cheapest and most flexible way to explore. What you need to know is that finding one here is not as easy as in Kuta.
How to get a scooter in Pemuteran
Pemuteran is a small village with a limited number of scooter rentals. There are three common ways:
- Through your accommodation. Most resorts, hotels and homestays in Pemuteran can find a scooter for guests. Ask when you book your room, especially in peak season.
- Small rentals on the main road. Some warungs or shops rent out scooters. Check the brakes, tyres and STNK (registration) before paying.
- Rent in Lovina. If you are travelling west from Lovina, rent a scooter there, where the choice is wider, then ride yourself about 1–1.25 hours to Pemuteran. Make sure the rental allows the scooter to travel far and stay overnight outside its area.
Because the choice is limited, do not expect a particular model to always be available. 110–125 cc automatics such as the BeAT, Scoopy and Vario are the most common.
Estimated prices
| Scooter type | Estimated market price/day | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Honda BeAT / Scoopy | about Rp70–90k | Most widely available |
| Honda Vario 125 | about Rp80–100k | More comfortable to Banyuwedang and Gilimanuk |
| NMAX / PCX | Depends on availability | Rare in the village, easier to find in Lovina |
Prices in a small village can be slightly higher than in town because the choice is limited. For Bali scooter rental prices by model, see our price guide.
Destinations from Pemuteran
| Destination | Approx. time | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Biorock Pemuteran | in the village | Snorkel over artificial reef structures close to shore |
| Pulaki Temple | about 10 minutes | Seaside temple at the foot of a hill, many monkeys |
| Melanting Temple | about 10–15 minutes | Large temple with an impressive gateway |
| Banyuwedang Hot Springs | about 15 minutes | Soak in natural hot springs near the beach |
| Labuhan Lalang (boats to Menjangan) | about 15–20 minutes | Departure point for snorkelling and diving boats to Menjangan Island |
| Gilimanuk Harbour | about 40–50 minutes | Ferry crossing to Java |
| Lovina | about 1–1.25 hours | Dolphin tours, North Bali town |
Getting to Menjangan Island
Menjangan Island is part of West Bali National Park and cannot be reached by vehicle. Ride to Labuhan Lalang, park at the pier, then take a snorkelling or diving boat arranged there or through an operator in Pemuteran. Many snorkelling packages include hotel pick-up and drop-off. In that case you do not need the scooter that day. Go in the morning, as the sea is usually calmest and clearest before midday.
Monkeys at Pulaki Temple
Pulaki Temple is home to many monkeys. When you stop there, put sunglasses, hats and food under the scooter seat, and do not hang plastic bags on the scooter's hook. Monkeys often climb onto scooters parked near the temple.
Road conditions in West Bali
- Pemuteran lies on the Seririt–Gilimanuk highway, the main route to Java. Trucks, buses and private cars travel quite fast.
- The road is fairly flat and straight, but poorly lit between villages. Plan to arrive before dark.
- The shoulder is narrow in places. Do not overtake on bends and always ride with your lights on.
- Petrol stations on this route are far apart. Fill up whenever you pass one. Roadside fuel is sold in the villages, but it costs more.
- Livestock and dogs sometimes cross village roads. Slow down when riding through settlements.
Do not ride a scooter in one go from Kuta or the airport to Pemuteran. It takes about 4–5 hours over the Bedugul climbs or along the truck-heavy western route. Take a shuttle or car to Pemuteran, then rent a scooter when you arrive. Car hire with a driver suits groups.
Check the scooter before accepting it, especially in a village
In a small village, finding a replacement scooter or a repair shop can take time. Five minutes of checks at the start saves a lot of hassle later:
- Front and rear brakes bite well, and tyres are not bald or cracked.
- Front and rear lights work. This matters because roads here are dark at night.
- The original STNK is present and its tax is valid. There are sometimes police checks on the road to Gilimanuk.
- Save the owner's WhatsApp number for help if you get a flat tyre.
- Photograph the scooter's condition and the dashboard (fuel and mileage) before you set off.

A 2-day Pemuteran plan by scooter
- Day 1 morning: snorkel the Biorock near the beach. Rest at midday. In the afternoon, visit Pulaki and Melanting temples, then head back before sunset.
- Day 2 morning: ride to Labuhan Lalang and snorkel at Menjangan. In the afternoon, soak in Banyuwedang Hot Springs on the way back.
If you then continue to Lovina or South Bali, return the scooter in Pemuteran and travel on by shuttle, unless the rental allows you to return it elsewhere.
