Which scooter to ride

The road to Kintamani is a long climb. With a passenger, rent an NMAX or PCX. Riding solo, a Vario 125 is still comfortable. Avoid a 110 cc scooter with a passenger if you don't want to struggle on the hills.

Trip tips

  • Kintamani can be much colder and foggier — bring a jacket.
  • Fill up the tank in Ubud or Tampaksiring before the climb.
  • On descents, alternate front and rear brakes and don't hold them on for too long.
  • Head back before dark; mountain roads have little lighting and are often foggy in the afternoon.
  • Carry small notes for entry tickets and parking.
