Spaniards love Bali's surf, nightlife and temples — and many are used to riding a 125 at home with a car licence. In Bali that shortcut doesn't apply. Here's what you actually need and how to get a scooter delivered without paying up front.

What a Spanish rider needs

DocumentWhy it matters
Permiso de conducir with category A1, A2 or ABali rental scooters (110–160 cc) are motorcycles
Permiso Internacional de Conducción (DGT) showing the motorcycle categoryExpected by Indonesian police next to your licence
PassportShown at handover and police checks
Travel insurance that covers ridingMany policies exclude riders without the right category

Rules can change. Check the Spanish Foreign Ministry's travel advice for Indonesia and the DGT before you travel.

The 'B for 3 years' rule stays in Spain

In Spain, drivers with permiso B for at least three years may ride light motorcycles up to 125 cc. That's a national rule: your licence card and international permit still show only category B. In Bali you'd be riding without a motorcycle licence — and an insurer can refuse to pay after a crash.

Not licensed for motorcycles? Don't gamble: a car with driver, a rental car or ride-hailing is safer for you and your insurance.

Getting the international permit

  1. Book an appointment (cita previa) at your Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico.
  2. Bring your licence, DNI or passport, a photo and the fee.
  3. Check that the motorcycle category appears on the permit.
  4. Carry it with your plastic licence — the permit alone is not valid.

How booking works

  1. Pick a scooter in the catalogue (or tell us your height, route and how many riders and we'll suggest one).
  2. Send your dates, the hotel or villa name with a Google Maps pin, and your WhatsApp number.
  3. The admin confirms the bike, the total price and the delivery time — no payment yet.
  4. The scooter arrives with 2 helmets. Check it together, show your passport and licence, then pay in full (bank transfer or e-wallet).

Book on WhatsApp or via the Bali scooter rental catalogue: the bike is delivered to your hotel or villa and you pay when it arrives.
