What to Bring When Arriving in Bali? Checklist | SiapPergi

If you're wondering what to bring when arriving in Bali, the answer is more than just your passport and suitcase. This guide covers documents, cash, gear and practical steps at the airport so your trip runs smoothly from the first minute.

Bali is a busy holiday destination, and most early problems can be avoided with a little preparation. The SiapPergi team, who run rentals across Bali every day, see the same questions again and again: which documents to carry, whether you need a credit card, and how to collect a rental vehicle at the airport. Here is the guide.

Documents you must bring

Keep the following documents together in one folder or small bag that is easy to reach:

  • Passport that is still valid and has blank pages for the immigration stamp.
  • Visa or entry permit for your nationality. Visa rules, length of stay and fees are set by Indonesian Immigration and can change, so check the official source before you travel.
  • Onward or return ticket, or proof of your plan to leave Indonesia, as officers sometimes ask for it.
  • Proof of accommodation (the name and address of your hotel or villa) to show if asked.
  • Your home driving licence and an International Driving Permit (IDP) if you plan to ride a motorbike or drive a car. For foreign riders, the usual rule is to carry your home licence together with an IDP that includes the motorcycle or car category. These rules are set by the police and can change, so confirm them again before you ride.
  • Travel insurance and an emergency contact list for family.

Keep digital copies of your passport and key documents on your phone and in your email. If the originals go missing, copies make the process much faster.

Cash, cards and payments

The official currency in Bali is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Many small shops, warungs, markets and transport services are still easier to pay in cash, so bring enough cash for the first day. For other payments, bank transfer and digital wallets are also widely used in Indonesia.

For vehicle rental specifically, SiapPergi operates with no deposit and does not hold your passport. You only show your passport or ID together with your licence at handover, and you pay in Rupiah when the vehicle arrives. There is no online payment in advance. Fixed catalogue prices start at Rp70,000 per day for scooters and Rp310,000 per day for cars.

Steps at Ngurah Rai Airport

Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) is the main gateway to Bali. After immigration and baggage claim, the usual sequence is:

  1. Exchange some money or withdraw cash from the ATMs in the arrivals area.
  2. Switch on your phone and fit a local SIM card if you need internet.
  3. Contact your rental provider. With SiapPergi, airport delivery is included in the price, with no extra transfer fee.
  4. Have your passport and licence ready when the team arrives, then check the vehicle together.

For onward routes, see scooter rental at Bali Airport or car rental at Bali Airport.

If you plan to travel to other areas

Rentals are not limited to Bali. If your plans include other cities or areas, check the relevant pages. For example, scooter rental in Ubud or car rental in Kuta. Keep in mind that scooters cannot be taken to Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands or Lombok, because fast boats do not carry scooters, so rent one at your next destination.
