Scooter Rental in Kuta Bali: A Practical Guide for Visitors
By the siappergi.com team · Published · 3 min read
Scooter rental in Kuta, Bali, is the simplest way to explore the south of the island at your own pace, from the beaches of Legian and Seminyak to the cliffs of Uluwatu. This guide covers prices, models, licence rules and how to book without surprises.
Why rent a scooter in Kuta?
Kuta sits close to Ngurah Rai Airport and is a short ride from Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran and Uluwatu. Traffic can be heavy at peak hours, but a scooter lets you skip taxi queues, park easily and reach quieter beaches and warungs that ride-hailing drivers often avoid.
A scooter is usually the most flexible choice for one to four weeks of local travel. For longer trips across the island, or for families with luggage, a car may suit you better; see car rental for options.

Choosing the right model
- Honda BeAT or Scoopy (110cc): light, economical and easy to handle in heavy traffic. A good default for city riding around Kuta and Legian. See the BeAT and Scoopy pages.
- Honda Vario (125cc): more power for slopes and longer runs, such as the trip to Uluwatu.
- Yamaha NMAX or Honda PCX (155–160cc): comfortable for two adults and luggage, and strong enough for longer days on the road. See the NMAX and PCX pages.
- Yamaha XMAX (250cc): the most powerful option here, suited to experienced riders.
Helmets and extras
Every scooter comes with 2 helmets. Optional add-ons include a phone holder (Rp15.000), sunglasses (Rp15.000 for two), helmet hair caps (Rp15.000 for two) and raincoats (Rp25.000 for two, or Rp15.000 for one). Rain can arrive quickly in the wet season, so a raincoat is worth adding.
Licence and requirement checklist
Requirements can change, so confirm with the rental team and official sources before you travel.
- A valid motorcycle licence. Foreign visitors normally need their home licence plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) with the motorcycle category.
- Your passport or ID. It is shown for checking; SiapPergi does not hold it.
- Minimum age 17.
- A rental of at least 2 days.
Licence and permit rules are set by the Indonesian authorities and may change. Check the official government source for the current IDP requirement before you fly.
Safety tips for riding in Kuta
- Always wear your helmet, fastened properly, and check the scooter before leaving: tyres, brakes and lights.
- Avoid riding after heavy drinking. Police checks happen, and insurance rules are strict.
- Keep valuables in a secure bag across your body and park in marked, well-lit spots.
- Take it slowly around Kuta's busy junctions and near the beach, where pedestrians and surfers cross unexpectedly.
- Do not take a scooter onto fast boats to Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands or Lombok; rent another one at your destination instead.
Where to ride from Kuta
Kuta is a good base for day trips. Popular routes include the cliff-top temples of Uluwatu, the beaches of Jimbaran and Nusa Dua, and the surf village of Canggu. Allow extra time for traffic on the way back in the evening.
