Munduk Waterfalls Scooter Route | SiapPergi

A munduk waterfalls scooter route is one of the most rewarding day rides in northern Bali, winding through clove forests, rice terraces and cool highland air. This guide covers the road, the stops, timing and how to rent a scooter delivered to your accommodation.

Why ride to Munduk by scooter

Munduk sits in the hills above Lovina on Bali's north side, roughly a long morning's ride from the southern beaches. The road climbs through terraced rice fields and clove and coffee plantations, and the air cools noticeably as you gain height. A scooter gives you what a tour bus cannot: stopping at a roadside viewpoint whenever you like and cutting onto a small lane to reach a waterfall.

Choosing your scooter and base

For the hills, a 125 cc automatic gives comfortable power on steep grades. The Honda Vario 125 at Rp100.000 per day is a solid choice, and a larger model such as the Yamaha NMAX 155 (Gen 2) at Rp150.000 per day adds stability on longer rides. Scooters start from Rp70.000 per day (24 hours), and weekly rates from Rp395.000 can make sense if you are staying several days in the north.

If you are based in Seminyak or Canggu, the trip is about two hours each way with stops, so plan a full day. Denpasar and Ubud are also good starting points. You can see area options on the scooter rental Denpasar page and the Ubud scooter rental page, and for the northern coast check the Lovina scooter rental page.

The route, step by step

  1. Start early, around 07.00. Morning light is best for the views and the traffic is lighter on the climb.
  2. Head north toward Bedugul and Candikuning, then follow signs toward Munduk on the lake-side road.
  3. Slow down on the descents. Many bends are tight and occasionally wet; use engine braking and keep to your lane.
  4. Stop at the viewpoints along the ridge road, where you can look down over the terraces.
  5. Visit the waterfalls from Munduk village. Several are reached by short walks down stone steps, so wear shoes with grip.
  6. Return before dusk. Hill roads are harder to read in low light, and some sections have no street lighting.

Road conditions and access to individual waterfalls can change with weather, and local village or regency rules on parking and entry fees are set locally. Check with your accommodation before you set off.

Practical checklist before you ride

  • A valid motorcycle licence. Foreign visitors need their home licence plus an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle category; rules are set by Indonesian authorities and may change, so verify with your official source.
  • Your passport or ID for the handover.
  • Two helmets (included with every SiapPergi scooter), plus a raincoat if you expect afternoon showers. Raincoats are available as an add-on from Rp15.000.
  • Fuel, water and a phone mount. A phone holder is available as an add-on for Rp15.000.
  • Cash or a charged e-wallet for parking and small entry fees.
