Scooter Rental in Nusa Penida: What to Know Before You Cross
By the SiapPergi Editorial Team · Published 8 October 2026 · 6 min read

Nusa Penida is famous for Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong. The island is beautiful, but its roads are far more challenging than on mainland Bali. Understand the conditions before deciding to rent a scooter.
Getting to Nusa Penida
Fast boats leave from Sanur Harbour and take about 35–45 minutes. Fast boats don't carry scooters, so you rent another one on the island. Book tickets at Sanur–Nusa Penida.
Road conditions on Nusa Penida
- Many roads are narrow, steep and potholed, especially towards the west-coast beaches.
- The last stretch to some beaches is a rocky track.
- There's very little street lighting at night.
- Tour car traffic is fairly heavy on the popular routes.
If you're not experienced riding on rough, steep roads, consider hiring a car with a driver on Nusa Penida. Safety matters more than saving money.

One-day route (West Penida)
- Harbour → Kelingking Beach (leave early).
- Broken Beach & Angel's Billabong.
- Crystal Bay Beach for a relaxed afternoon.
- Back to the harbour before the last fast boat.
Preparation
- Bring cash — ATMs are limited.
- Wear shoes with good grip if you're hiking down to the beaches.
- Check the scooter's brakes and tyres before you set off.
