Amed is a string of fishing villages on Bali's east coast with Mount Agung as the backdrop. Snorkelling and diving spots are spread along the shore, so a scooter is the most practical way to get around. Prices and booking are on the Amed scooter rental page; this article focuses on how to ride here and where to go.

Road conditions

Amed's coast road is narrow, winding and hilly, but the views are stunning. A mid-size automatic is fine for the main road, while a trail bike like the Kawasaki KLX 150 is comfortable on village roads.

Tips

  • Petrol stations are rare — fill up in Amlapura or Culik, or buy bottled petrol at a roadside warung.
  • Go to Lempuyang Temple very early to avoid the photo queue.
  • Wear a sarong when entering temples; you can usually rent one on site.

Plan a full day out with the East Bali scooter route.
